The Youth Committee consisting of Art Postle, Chair, Leanne Kessler, Don Clements, Al Muir and Brent Klause has an exciting year ahead.
Meewasin Rotary is hosting Tristan Decoster from Belgium who arrives in August and will be attending Walter Murray Collegiate. His counselor is John Luross and host families will be the Claypool’s, the Paproski’s and the Tranberg’s. Janice and Dale Tranberg are the parents of our outbound student. His interests include Scouts, track and field, swimming and cycling. While in Canada he hopes to learn our culture, language and make new friends. As he indicates, “I think it should be just good.”
The Club’s outbound student is Maya Tranberg, a graduate of Walter Murray Collegiate who leaves for Columbia in August. Her ambition is “to further discover who I am as a person and what kind of impact I can have on those around me.”
In addition to the Youth Exchange the Club supports various programs such as Adventures in Technology, Citizenship, Agriculture, Music, and Model United Nations as well the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp at Clear Lake. The students attending RYLA are Kate Kessler for the Basic Camp, ages 12, 13, 14 and Lauren Klassen and Matthew Jacques for the Advanced Camp, ages 15, 16, 17. In addition Isaac Jacques a former RYLA attendee and also a long term exchange student this last year is attending as a Counselor.
The Club is responsible for the Adventure in Technology program to be held in Saskatoon in April/May, 2016
Club members volunteer in the reading program at St. Michael Community School as well as providing funds for a Catch-a-Reader program to reward students for self-initiatives in reading and books for a Metis Course being developed in the fall of 2015.
